The title of this post might lead you to believe that I have tapped out a decorating post. Not so. In fact, my decorating skills are average at best. What I have to offer you today is a post that encourages you to choose the right light for your soul and your faith.

Why Choosing the Right Light is so Important

God used one of my houseplants to illustrate this quite vividly. I have had my Shamrock (oxalis) plant for several years and for the longest time, I kept it in a spot in front of my kitchen sink. In that spot it received lots of light from our under-mount cabinet lights. I watered and fed it with Miracle Grow® regularly. In spite of all my best efforts, it never produced more than 8-10 stems and 2-3 blooms at any given time.

One day, I decided to move it to one of the few places in our home that gets some (not much) morning sunlight. I continued the watering and feeding, but did not have much hope of ever seeing more stems and blooms than I had in the past.

Imagine my surprise and delight when, within a couple of weeks, more stems began to emerge. Soon, I had doubled the number of stems and blooms. Then the number tripled. **DELIGHT!!**

Recently, I snapped a picture of Shamrock and here is what it looks like now:

Shamrock is happy and loving life all because it is now getting the right kind of light. How does this apply to you and me?

We must carefully choose the kind of light under which our hearts and souls live. Most of us spend a lot of time in lights that we think are feeding our heart and soul, even lights that are good and helpful, yet we find our faith weak and anemic. It is only when we spend time with the True Light, Jesus, that our heart and soul will flourish and bloom. There is nothing that can grow our faith like regular time in Scripture and prayer. Am I being dogmatic about this? You bet I am. Check out what God has to say on this topic of light.

Psalm 27:1a: The Lord is my LIGHT and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?

Psalm 119:105: Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a LIGHT to my path.

John 8:12: Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the LIGHT of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the LIGHT of life.”

How would you rate your faith today? Anemic and weak?  OR  Flourishing and vibrant?

Is there a person in your life whose faith encourages you? Have you asked them what their secret is?

What obstacles stand in the way of a flourishing and vibrant faith?

What would have to change in your life in order for you to have that flourishing and vibrant faith?

There is no better time than the New Year to commit to regular time in the Scriptures and in prayer. Not sure where to start in studying God’s Word? Here are a few resources that will be helpful.

I have written three (watch for my 4th release in the spring/summer of 2020) Bible studies:

My friend, Arabah Joy, has some wonderful Bible study and prayer resources in her STORE.

THIS Bible study was “the one” that propelled me on my faith journey.

Every Christian should do THIS study on the topic of Covenant. We really do not understand how seriously God takes the issue of covenants.

Friend, I hope you are living in the RIGHT LIGHT and your faith is vibrant and blooming. I would love to hear from you about the questions I asked above. Simply leave me a comment or send an email to [email protected]. It would be my honor to encourage you on your journey of faith.
