In Exodus 17 we find the story of Joshua and the Israelites fighting the Amalakites. Moses, along with Aaron and Hur, stood on a mountain overlooking the battleground and watched what was going on below. When Moses held up his hands, the Israelites prevailed in the battle, but when he let his hands down, the Amalakites grew stronger. Exodus 17: 12 says the following:
“When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up–one on one side, one on the other–so that his hands remained steady till sunset.”
Many years ago when the Lord was speaking to me about beginning a ladies Bible study group, He gave me this very verse as a picture of what that Bible study group would become. We would be Aarons and Hurs for each other and that is exactly what has happened.
Our Tuesday morning group has been together for eight years. Some have left the group because of other commitments, but we have gained many precious ladies over the years. We have studied together, laughed together, prayed together, cried together and grown in the Lord together. We have been there when someone needed their hands held up in order to win a battle and we continue to be Aarons and Hurs for each other. This group is an amazing blessing in my life. They were with me during my Daddy’s battle with cancer. They have stood beside me as I launched my speaking ministry. They pray for me and support me when I go out to speak. They truly ‘hold my hands up’.
Everyone needs an Aaron and Hur. Who is your Aaron and Hur? Who has God placed in your life to hold your hands up when the battle is fierce? I would love to hear your stories of how God brought them into your life and how He has used them to strengthen you for your battles.
