Hello! Did you catch the post on Monday about the new series that will be starting here at The Point in January. It is called What I Needed to Say….and it stars YOU!!

Sometimes life circumstances leave us unable to tell the rest of the story or say something that needs to be said. What I Needed to Say…. will be all about saying those things that will help you heal and doing it ANONYMOUSLY. I would love to have you be part of this series. Please take a moment to read about how you or someone you know can participate by clicking here.

When Words Won’t Come. Very rarely am I at a loss for words. Unfortunately I open my mouth far too often. However, there are those times when words fail me. It is in those times that I have learned to turn to God and His Word for the comfort and assurance that only He can give.

Today as I listen to the news and see pictures of the destruction left behind in the northeastern part of the US in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, I pray for all affected. This storm has left been felt all over the eastern United States.

The days in which we live seem to bring almost constant accounts of sickness, destruction, tragedy, and loss. In addition to the devastation from the hurricane, so many people are suffering with cancer and other serious illnesses. It seems almost daily I hear of someone else being diagnosed with cancer. It is particularly tragic when it is a child. I can think of no less than three little ones currently battling cancer at this moment. Then, there are the marriages in trouble, homes being foreclosed upon, jobs lost, friendships torn apart, sex trafficking of children. The list of suffering and troubles seem endless. To be honest, it gets downright overwhelming.

The apostle Paul knew a bit about suffering. He experienced multiple beatings, stoning, being shipwrecked and lost at sea, being robbed, imprisoned, hungry, cold, naked, a snakebite, being scorned by his own people and so much more….all for the sake of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Yet, in spite of all he suffered he said something so profound and deep that I believe it deserves to be our verse for today’s When Words Won’t Come. Consider Romans 8:18(NKJV) in light of all Paul suffered:

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Can you go there with Paul? Whatever we suffer now, in this life, will pale in comparison to the glory, the awesomeness of what awaits us in the heaven. I’ll just tell you, that takes faith. That is a hard one, isn’t it? Our troubles, trials and devastations are so NOW. They are all-encompassing, like a wave engulfing us. I want that kind of faith and I bet you do too, but I must confess, I’m not quite there yet. I find myself easily overwhelmed by life.

Paul says encourages us to think bigger…broader….beyond NOW. He wants us to see our lives through heavenly eyes. One day that won’t be so difficult. One day we will look in the rear view mirror and understand that what overwhelms us now was used by God to bring us one step closer to Him…one step nearer heaven.

Until then, we walk by faith and not by sight. Let’s trust Him and walk with Him through this life. One day we will walk from this life right on into the next and then our mouths will fly open, our eyes will be as wide as saucers and we will say, “NOW, I understand.”

MEDITATION MOMENT: Would you be willing to share about a time when life seemed to engulf you, but later you were able to look back at the situation with a heavenly perspective? It would be a great encouragement to those going through trial right now.
