Welcome, friend, to our regular weekly feature entitled When Words Won’t Come. These posts were born out of a time earlier this year when the well of my words had nearly dried up. In the midst of that time, I realized that when I, personally, have no words, God’s eternal and living Word always has something to say to us.

In today’s edition, we venture into the book of the prophet Jeremiah to a verse that has sustained and encouraged me time and again. I pray you will find some encouragement for your heart there too.

Jeremiah 32:17 (NAS) ‘Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You.

I was almost 16 years old when my parents gave me my first car. It was a rebuilt-from-the-bottom-up 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle in bright orange. I called it Herbie. I had been driving since I was 8 or 9 and so I was confident behind the wheel….until I realized that Herbie was a ‘four on the floor’. In addition to the gas and brake pedals, there was another pedal called the clutch. Suddenly, I had to learn something new….something that required skill and coordination.

In the first few days after Daddy gave Herbie to me, he instructed me to get in the car (drivers seat) while he rode in the passenger seat. I was doing really well driving Herbie at that point. Daddy instructed me to go to a place in our tiny town where there is a steep hill….A VERY STEEP HILL. About halfway up the hill, he said, “Stop.”

I stopped and looked over at him, knowing what was coming next. “Now,” said he, “go.”

My first instinct was to say, “but it’s too hard. I can’t do it. We will go flying down this hill backward. Daddy, please help me.”

Daddy could see I was scared. He looked at me and said, “You can do it. Just try.”

I did it. It took a few tries and some serious slamming on of the brakes, but it wasn’t long before I had mastered the technique of straight shift/hill driving.

Our heavenly Father, who created the heavens and earth by His might power and outstretched arm, never comes up against something that is too hard for Him. He never experiences angst or fear over a situation. He never thinks, “It is too hard. I can’t do it.” Never!

Whatever situation you are in right now, I hope you will be encouraged to know that it is not too big/hard/difficult/painful/awkward/uncomfortable for God to handle. If God can create every single thing in this world and the world beyond, including you, know that He is able to handle your problems and concerns. Even though the situation might feel too hard for you, nothing is too hard for God, friend.

MEDITATION MOMENT: Is there a situation in your life that seems too hard for you to endure? Know that God is able to handle it. I would love to pray for you and your situation. Please feel free to leave a comment about your situation so I can lift you to our Lord.
