The longer I walk with Jesus the sweeter His Words become to me. They are life and strength to my soul.
Today’s issue of When Words Won’t Come was birthed out of a season of sheer dependency on God to perform the impossible in my life. It was a season where I was not walking in close fellowship with God and He chose to show up and show off in such a way that I had no choice but to stand with my mouth agape at what He had done.
In 1993 I purchase a condominium in Peachtree Corners in the Atlanta area. I lived there for a while as a single girl and then Greg and I lived there after we married in 1995. When it came time for Greg to set up his dental practice, we chose an area of northern Gwinnett County called Dacula. Dacula was about 30 miles from Peachtree Corners and we knew it would not be feasible for us to continue to live in the condo. So, we put the condo on the market to sell.
In the mid 90’s the condo market was as soft as a feather pillow and no one was making money on condos. In fact, we were bracing for a hefty loss in order to be able to live closer to Greg’s practice in Dacula.
We had found a home in the Dacula area and put a contract on it, contingent on the selling of my condo. After the condo had been on the market a few weeks, we got an offer on it. A darn good offer, I might add. An offer that would allow us to not only not lose money, but have a nice amount for a down payment on our new home. The problem was that the person wanting my condo made the purchase of it contingent on the sale of their home where they were currently lived. AND…as if that was not enough, the sale of their home was contingent on the sale of the home of the person purchasing it.
Ok, have I totally confused you? Let me try to explain. Home A would be our new Dacula home. Home B would be my condo. Home C would be the home of the person wanting to purchase my condo. Home D would be the home of the person wanting to purchase the home of the person wanting to purchase my condo. Yep, more confusion.
In short we had four contingencies that had to happen in order for us to purchase our new home in Dacula. Home D had to close in order for Home C to close. Home C had to close in order for Home B to close. Home B had to close in order for us to purchase Home A…..AND they all were closing within 36 hours of each other.
IMPOSSIBLE!!!
Several days before the closings I was as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I spent some significant time in prayer and reading the Bible. One day the Lord led me to 2 Chronicles 20:17(NIV). When I read this verse it was as if the very voice of God was speaking it to me.
“You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.”
And that is exactly what happened. I leaned hard on the Lord and trusted what He said. Every house closed on time and we were the owners of a new home in Dacula. The Lord had done for us what seemed impossible. We could do nothing but give Him praise Him!! I have never forgotten 1 Chronicles 20: 17 because it was a verse used by the Lord to grow my faith in Him.
MEDITATION MOMENT: Is there a situation in your life that seems impossible? Are you faced with something that you are sure will never work out? Trust your God to go before you and deliver you, dear friend. He can do the impossible!!
