The Psalm that I meditated on last week was Psalm 56 and two verses in particular spoke to my heart and reminded me that God truly and genuinely cares about what is going on in our lives.

Psalm 56: 8 and 9 says: “You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? When I cry out to You, then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me.”

In verse 3 of this same Psalm, we hear David voicing his trust in God when he says, “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.” David wrote this Psalm when he was being chased by Saul. He fled to Gath, which had been home of the giant Goliath. Here David also feared for his life and pretended to be crazy so the Philistines would not kill him. Now, why in the world David would run to the enemy’s land in the midst of his fear is beyond me, especially since he was the anointed, but yet to be crowned, King of Israel who had been specifically chosen by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. However, that is where he went and doesn’t that sound just like something we would do?

How often do we find ourselves in a peck of trouble and fail to flee to our Lord? Instead we reach out to whatever the world has to offer to soothe our fear and calm our minds. In the midst of his fear and despair, however, David remembered to look up and when he did, he found great comfort.

Listen to the reminder he gives us. First let’s remember that you and I never take a step, be it inside or outside the will of God, that He doesn’t know exactly where we are. God numbers our steps and records them in His books. His eye is not only on the sparrow but He watches you and me as carefully as a parent watches a child.

Next God collects all our tears and puts them in a bottle. What a beautiful picture!! We tend to collect and store things that are precious to us—baby and family pictures, locks of hair, family heirlooms, and letters from loved ones. So does our God!!! He carefully catches every tear that falls from his children’s eyes and places them in a bottle in heaven. They are precious to Him because they belong to one that He loves dearly. I just think that is such an awesome picture of God’s love and care for us.

Finally, let’s understand that God is for you and for me!! Say ‘God is for me’ four times placing the emphasis on a different word each time.
God is for me!!
God is for me!
God is for me!!
God is for ME!!

Dear friends, God is not some cosmic meanie sitting up in heaven just waiting to throw down a lightening bolt and singe every hair on our heads because of some screw up on our part. God loves us and He wants what is best for each of us. He is our head cheerleader. He is the loving parent who longs for His child to have the best He can provide. He longs for us to reach out our arms to Him and say, “Help me, I can’t do this by myself.”

God loves us more than we can possibly imagine or comprehend—no matter what we have done, where we have been or what we do in the future—He loves us to the uttermost and He is constantly, diligently watching over us and caring for us. Never forget that you are precious to God and He is for you!!
