In my personal Bible study time, I read a quote from the reformer, Martin Luther. It is said that he alluded to God as Herrn Gottes Flicker, Lord God Mender. What a beautiful image of our Lord. The Mender.

When Jesus died on the cross, He made possible a permanent mending of sin. Because of His sacrifice, no one has to experience the eternal consequences of sin….unless they choose to. In choosing Jesus to be the payment before God for my sin, I chose a forever relationship with God over eternal separation from God. Perhaps being eternally separated from God doesn’t sound like such a big deal to you. What about being forever in isolation, and the only company you have is every regret, every pain, and every sorrow you have ever experienced. Does that sound like something you want to sign up for?

In choosing Jesus to be the payment before God for my sin, I chose for my last earthly breath to be my first gulp of heavenly air. I chose an eternity without sorrow, sickness, separation, tears, or pain when I asked Jesus to come into my heart and be my Lord. The key is that I chose. When one chooses to reject Jesus, they say they have no need of the Lord God Mender to permanently mend their heart from sin’s damning consequences. Refer back to the previous paragraph for the consequences of that choice, please.

There is much in our sin-soaked world that needs the Lord God Mender’s touch. In my own little world I have a mother with arthritis who is in daily pain, precious elderly friends who are physically separated because he needs care in a nursing home, while she remains at home. A high school friend’s husband passed away. Little children battle cancer. Marriages are ripped apart because of sin and selfishness. Homes are destroyed in fires or tornados.  People die in automobile accidents or plane crashes. Economies crash. Evil dictators kill their own people. Wars claim lives. Starvation. Disease. Human trafficking. Child abuse. All the result of sin and Satan, and it touches everyone who lives on this spinning orb. Thanks, Adam and Eve.

But, one day, for those who have made Jesus the King of their Hearts and their very best friend……….

“……God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21: 4 (NKJV)

Part of what will make heaven so wonderfully heaven, my friends, will be what is missing. I want to go….how about you?

MEDITATION MOMENT: It’s your life. It’s your choice. I’d love to take my first gulp of heaven’s air and see you there, but only you can choose Jesus and heaven. Have you? Will you? I’d love to share with you how you can choose Him. Email me at [email protected]
