This week at The Loft, we are talking about blogging. Chances are good that many who read our posts are also bloggers, so it will be fun to hear all about how you got started, what lights your blogging fire, your focus, your dreams, etc. Today, I am sharing how I got started blogging, so let’s get to it.
Since middle school I had loved to write. Term papers? No problem. I zipped right through those. English assignments. Aced! I simply enjoy writing, but had not really had a reason to write since college.
In December 2002, my Daddy was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer. During the 22 months before He went home to be with Jesus, many people wanted to keep up with his progress and status. I began to write a weekly email to friends and family, updating them on his health and treatment. At the end of each email, I offered a few words of encouragement and a Scripture. Soon, there were scores of people on the email list.
After Daddy passed in October 2004, I felt the Lord leading me to turn that email into a short devotion. More people asked to be included, and eventually there were almost 150 emails addresses that were receiving my weekly email. At that point, I began having issues with people NOT receiving the email. Because of the large distribution list, many ISPs were flagging it as SPAM, and it was being deleted or quarantined.
One day I was at the gym on the torture machine, AKA elliptical trainer, reading a magazine. One of the articles in the magazine was about a somewhat new idea called blogging. I had never heard of a blog, but immediately I sensed the Lord saying this was His chosen avenue for my writing.
In 2006, I began writing my weekly devotion as blog posts, and the rest is blogging history. My blog is part of my website (www.leahadams.org), and is now my main platform for ministry. Through it I have been blessed to ‘meet’ so many wonderful people. I am deeply grateful to anyone who takes the time to visit my website, and read the words the Lord gives me to write.
That’s my blogging story. What is yours?
