I don’t watch much television, mostly because there is little on that is worth watching. Consequently, I have not watched any of The Bible; a ten hour, five week mini-series that is currently showing on The History Channel.

I’ve heard good reviews on it, but one thing I heard spoke straight to my heart. In the portion of the episode where the story of David and Bathsheba was being portrayed, apparently David said something like this to Bathsheba: “Don’t worry. No one will ever know.”

Yeah, right! Now, three thousand years later, everyone knows.

So it is with our attempts to commit sin without having to endure the consequences of that sin. We scheme and slip around and do our misdeeds in the dark of night, thinking that we will get away with whatever it is we are doing. All the while, the God of the universe sees what we are doing.

7 “Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.”  Psalm 139: 7-12 (emphasis, mine)

My pastor said something about this issue of trying to cover up sin that comes often to my mind. Anything we try to cover, God will uncover; but anything we uncover, God will cover.

Think about that for a minute, then consider Jeremiah 16: 17:

“I am watching them closely, and I see every sin. They cannot hope to hide from me.” (NLT)

What sin are you hoping to slip by God?

Are you absolutely certain that no one will ever know? Really?

Think twice before you adopt King David’s mantra of “No one will ever know”. Don’t force God to publicly expose your sin for all the world to see like He did David’s sins of adultery and murder. If you are a child of God, He will not allow you to choose sin without experiencing the consequences of that sin. His Holy Spirit will be on you like white on rice. Take my word for it, it is so much easier to make a choice not to sin.

You will never be held responsible for a sin you did not commit.

Think about it.

Think about it.

Got it?

Let me say it again. You will never, ever have to endure the consequences of a sin you did not commit.

Choose wisely, my friend. God sees your every move
