Day 11 of Living Thankful brings me to two very special young ladies who are part of my life, although we have never met. I am talking about the two young women I sponsor through Compassion International.
About three years ago I began sponsoring Ruth, a young girl from Tanzania. Ruth is a beautiful eight year old who lives with her family. She and I write letters back and forth. We share pictures and Bible verses. She has three sisters and one brother, as well as her parents.
Earlier this year, I began sponsoring Upendo, a 5 year old, also from Tanzania. Upendo and I also share letters and pictures and I look forward to watching her grow up just as I have watched Ruth.
For a very short time, I sponsored a young woman, Rispa, who was 18 years old. However, she dropped out of the program before I received any letters from her. I have committed to praying for Rispa, just as I pray for Ruth and Upendo.
One day, I hope to go to Tanzania and meet Ruth and Upendo, but I want to wait until they are a bit older. It is my joy to pray for these young girls and their families and I hope my sponsorship offers them advantages they might not otherwise have, such as education and medical care.
