I am so excited to tell you about my new friend. Her name is Ruth and she is almost 6 years old. She lives in Tanzania in an AIDS affected area with her mother and father. She is in good health and is responsible for carrying water, running errands and helping in the kitchen. Her parents are sometimes employed as farmers. Ruth has 3 siblings.
Singing, playing house and playing with dolls are Ruth’s favorite activities. She goes to kindergarten and regularly attends church activities and Bible class at a Compassion International student center.
Ruth is the child that I am sponsoring through Compassion International and she is an absolutely beautiful little girl. I look forward to developing a relationship with her over the coming years.
Let me tell you a bit about Tanzania, where Ruth lives. It is East Africa’s largest country with a coastal belt, a highland plateau with rich wildlife reserves, and the island of Zanzibar. It is also home to Mount Kilimanjaro.
Typical homes in Tanzania are constructed of dirt floors, adobe walls and tin roofs. The regional diet consists of maize, beans, rice, and potatoes. Malaria is very common in this area. Most adults are unemployed in the area in which Ruth lives. Some, like Ruth’s parents, work part time as farmers and earn the equivalent of $16 per MONTH.
About 30 percent of the population is Christian and 1/3 is Muslim. It is estimated that 1.6 million people or 8 % of adults in Tanzania have HIV/AIDS.
It costs only about $35 per month to sponsor a child through Compassion International. If you would consider sponsoring a child, please click on the link in my sidebar!!
Bless the children!
