The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
What emotion or feeling does this verse bring forth in your heart? For me, it is security.
I’ve never been a parent of an infant, but in this verse I see God in that role. Here I find strength and might, delight, calmness, and joy all emanating from the Lord as He cares for His beloved child.
On many occasions, I’ve watched new mothers nurture and care for their baby. They hold the little one closely to their chest, assuring the child that it is safe in the arms of its mother. She delights in every coo and gurgle, often smiling at the wee one in response. A mother’s love causes her to stroke the baby’s back, gentle touch its tiny hands, and kiss its soft face, all in an effort to quiet and calm her child. Each milestone is met with rejoicing, and perhaps singing….the first smile, the first word, the first roll-over, the first tooth. Her heart of compassion is moved when her child is sick or in distress. She will do whatever she must to bring calm to her baby.
The Lord our God is security to the heart of His child. He delights, perchance he laughs aloud, when His little one is obedient. His Holy Spirit ministers comfort to our hearts in times of trouble and trial. The love of the Father is ever-present, and infuses our heart with peace.
Can you imagine the sound of the Father’s voice as He sings over us, as a mother would sing over her child? How beautiful it must be. We can look forward to hearing God’s voice speak to us when we get to heaven. How secure we can be, knowing that we are His dearly loved child.
Your heavenly Parent takes great delight in you, my friend. He wants to quiet you with His love and rejoice over you with singing. Can you hear Him? Tune your ears to heaven’s frequency and feel secure.
