Hello friends, I’m glad to be back here for Five Minute Friday after the Christmas Break. I have so enjoyed participating in #FMFparty: we get a word prompt from Kate Motaung, then we write like crazy for 5 minutes. No re-thinking, no editing. Just writing. I’ve met some amazing people, and have enjoyed my time here immensely. However, the Lord has provided a new Friday opportunity for me that I am so excited about. Unfortunately, it means that I may not be able to participate in #FMFparty as frequently as I have been. That’s okay, though. This new opportunity will impact not only my participation in #FMFparty, but also our Tuesday link-up at The Loft. Join me on Tuesday, January 13th, to learn more about what is coming! Until then, let’s get to today’s word prompt.
WELCOME is our prompt for today. I’m ready….let’s do it!
When we built our home in 2001, my heart’s desire was that it would be a place where we would do the work of being Jesus to others…a place where all would feel WELCOME. Although I was still on my journey back to a wholehearted relationship with Jesus, I knew that I wanted our home to be a place of refuge and WELCOME for the weary soul. I began to pray that the Lord would help us always use these four walls to show Jesus to others.
With the benefit of almost 14 years of hindsight, I believe we are being faithful to do just that, and in the process, I’m pretty sure we are the ones who have been blessed immeasurably. We have WELCOMED so many people through our doors and to our table: black, white, gay, straight, male, female, American, German, Australian, Latvian, Swedish, the scholar, the athlete, the mom, the single, college students, physicians, grocery baggers, and pastors, family and friends, and the list goes on. My Tuesday girls and I have studied God’s Word for 15 solid years right here beneath my roof, and what a blessing that has been. Greg and I have gained a ‘daughter’ because we were willing to open our hearts and home to WELCOME an international student in.
My heart’s desire is that my home would offer a WELCOME to anyone who needs a bit of Jesus wrapped around them.
Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.Romans 15:7 (ESV)
Thanks for stopping in and reading, friend. You are WELCOME here anytime!
