Welcome, friends. It’s time for Five Minute Friday (#FMFparty). Five Minute Friday is a writing prompt that encourages us to write for 5 minutes without editing or stewing over our words. Then we link up our posts over at Kate’s blog. I’ve met some really great bloggers as I have participated in #FMFparty.
Today’s writing prompt is : STILL. Here goes:
“You don’t sit STILL for very long”.
These were the words out of my Mother’s mouth yesterday as I visited with her at the Nursing Home. She spoke the truth. I don’t do STILL very well. I may sit for a pair of minutes, but pop back up to do something else pretty quickly.
This week I began reading through the newest Bible study offering by Priscilla Shirer entitled, Breathe: Making Room for Sabbath. I think I’m about to have to make some changes in my life! In fact, I’ve been convicted for a while now that I don’t do STILL very well. For years I have not truly observed Sabbath. Oh, I attend worship service, and am active in my church, but Sunday (or whatever day one chooses as their Sabbath) is rarely a day of being STILL for me. I’m learning that Sabbath is about so much more than physically being STILL before God. It is spiritual, mental, emotion STILLNESS before God; a focusing on Him, and not the things of this world. I’m learning that observing Sabbath was something God used an entire day of creation doing, so it is incredibly important. God was not tired. He was setting an example of being STILL and of rest for His stubborn dust-bunnies.
I’ve only begun reading Breathe, but already I’m thinking that when Sabbath comes this week it will look very different for me from past Sabbaths. I am learning to be STILL before God.
I would love to hear how you observe Sabbath.
