From Fox News 8-31-11:
A desperate dad fleeing foreclosure left behind his 11-year-old son a week before they would have been evicted from their home, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Friday.
Steven Alexander Cross fled during the night while his son, Sebastian, slept in their Lakeville, Minnesota home, located 25 miles south of Minneapolis. The property was in foreclosure and the owner had received an eviction notice.
The father left a note of instruction for his son, telling him to take his PlayStation and go to a neighbor’s house when he woke up.
“If this paper is wet, it’s because I am crying so bad,” he wrote to the boy before making his escape July 18. “You know your dad loves you more than anything.”
Abandonment. Desertion. Neglect. Rejection. The 11 year old boy who was left by his father in Minnesota knows how it feels to be abandoned by the one person who was supposed to be his protector and provider. I cannot even imagine the damage done to this child’s emotions by the actions of his father. Sebastian may find it hard to ever feel secure again. I’m sure he finds it hard to believe that ‘his dad loves him more than anything’.
Have you ever been abandoned, rejected or deserted by someone who was supposed to be your protector, provider and defender? If so, you know what Sebastian is feeling. Today I offer a word to you and to Sebastian, so cruelly abandoned by his father.
Your Father loves you more than anything and He will never abandon you.
“When the poor and needy search for water and there is none, and their tongues are parched from thirst, then I, the LORD, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will never forsake them. Isaiah 41:17 (NLT)
There is nothing I can say that will heal the hurt of abandonment felt by you or Sebastian. My God, however, can heal that hurt. I pray today, if you have ever been abandoned or rejected by another human, you will feel God’s tender arms around you and hear Him whisper “your Father loves you more than anything”. He means it. He always keeps His promises.
