Recently Greg and I, along with Charlie and Bree, spent a week in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Ah, Vacation….that time when you kick back, relax, and eat your way through whatever towns you are in. This vacation did not disappoint. Greg and Charlie played golf several times, while Bree and I relaxed at the pool or beach. I read two novels. Yay! And we ate…often and much.
Greg and I introduced Charlie and Bree to steamed oysters, which we are crazy about. We had already decided we would eat steamed oysters every day, if possible. Yeah, we go overboard that way. We came pretty close to reaching our goal. We made homemade ice cream twice, and you can bet that none of that went to waste!!!
Here are a few pictures, in no particular order, from our week at the beach.
I walked up beside this emergency box, and was literally eye to eye with mama bird. She flew after we traded stares for a few seconds, leaving behind these twin surprises. Definitely a treat! We scooted away quickly so she could return to her nest.

Charlie decreed that this crazy hat would make him play better golf. Oddly enough, he played pretty well the day he wore it. Frightful, isn’t it?
At each holiday or vacation break, we put together a puzzle as a family. Alas, the beach life was a huge hindrance, and the puzzle never got completed. I brought it home and am now working on it all by myself. It is an incredibly difficult puzzle!
Nothing special about this picture. I had just never seen bar stools with a knife, fork, and spoon worked into the design.
This trip was all about ‘floppy hats’. Bree ordered herself a new one for the trip. I already had one. Then, Charlie showed up with one. Well, we couldn’t have Greg being the only non-floppy hatted person, so we found him one. We were the four floppy hats!
Right here is how I began each morning…coffee and quiet time while everyone else slept. It was glorious.
Greg, Bree and Charlie on the beach on our first evening there.
When Bree went out running one day, she found this lovely public pier. We went back a few times. On one trip, Charlie took his camera and shot some pics. Here is one of Greg and me.
We had a great vacation, but it surely was good to be back home.
