Happy New Year!! 2012…can you even believe it? I remember when I was in my teens thinking that in the year 2000 I would be 36 years old. Beyond that age…well, I did not even consider being older than 36 because, you know, that’s just OLD! Now, from the ripe old age of 47, I can hardly believe we are 12 years into this millennium.

I have been pondering a quote I saw on my flip calendar. This quote has really gotten all up in my business and given me cause to pause and re-order my priorities as it relates to my writing and posting here at The Point Ministries.

Here is the quote by Charles Jarvis:

“We are all so busy being good; we have no time to be excellent.”

Try that one on for size! Whew!

If I am being totally truthful, (and I want to), as it relates to my blogging, I often post things that are good, but not excellent.

There. I said it and it is true. I sometimes fall into the trap of feeling like I need to post:

  • Because I have not in a few days
  • Because if I don’t the number of visitors to my site will decrease
  • Because I want to maintain my presence in blogland
  • Because someone else has posted something witty or profound, and surely I can muster up SOMETHING.
  • Because………………………………………… you fill in the blank with your thoughts

Anyhoo…..as I think back to my early writing days…..back in 2003 or 2004….before I even knew the word ‘blog’….I remember waiting on God, desperately seeking His input for what I would write in my weekly email. I felt no urgency to get something ‘out there’. The only urgency I felt was for the words to come from the Lord.

I’m not saying I don’t do all that any more. I’m just saying I’m not doing it for EVERYTHING I post……but in 2012, with the Lord’s help, things are going to change. I don’t want to be so busy trying to post ‘X’ number of times a week that I put out mediocre material. I want to put out material that has excellence written all over it. I want to write and post God’s words, not my own. I’m too old to waste time posting stuff that is not from God. Life is too short and the stakes are too high. People are dying and going to hell every day. I want my words to make a difference in where people spend eternity.

So, in 2012, I’m not on any posting schedule. I may post once a day or once a week, but I will seek to post only when God gives me the words…..words of excellence. I will pray more diligently and seek His heart for the material I write. I will write for the Audience of One, rather than the audience of blogland. I pray you will find a blessing in what I post in 2012.

To that end, one of the things I will be doing here at The Point will be a study in the book of Hebrews. There are 13 chapters in Hebrews and we will work through all 13 in 2012. I’m shooting for one chapter per month, with two chapters one month so we finish in a year. I’ll give you more details tomorrow but I hope you will join me as we study Hebrews. I’m calling the series He-brews: A Better Blend, because the book of Hebrews is all about better things.

HeBrews: A Better Blend

Thank you for reading what the Lord gives me…and even some of the stuff I come up with on my own. Thank you for your faithfulness to encourage me in ministry. God bless you in 2012.
