This week as we prepare to celebrate Resurrection Day on Sunday, the Holy Spirit is prompting me to view this most important of holidays through the lens of one of the most well known passages in all of Scripture. 1 Corinthians 13. The Love Chapter.

Each day this week, I invite you to join me as we glimpse the sacrifice of Jesus and the incredible resurrection through the lens of LOVE.

THURSDAY – Love does not demand it’s own way…1 Corinthians 13: 5

32 And they came to an olive grove called Gethsemane, and Jesus said, “Sit here while I go and pray.” 33 He took Peter, James, and John with him, and he began to be filled with horror and deep distress. 34 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and watch with me.” 35 He went on a little farther and fell face down on the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. 36 “Abba, Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will, not mine.”  Mark 14: 32-36 (NLT)

Jesus had every right to say ‘No’

No…..to leaving heaven.

No…..to being born.

No…..to enduring suffering.

No….. to dying for untold millions who did not deserve His sacrifice.

Yet, He did not demand His own way…the easier way…the less painful way. He knew what lay ahead before He left heaven’s glory bound for earth. He knew He would suffer horribly. He knew He would take on the sin of all mankind as if it was his own. He knew it all and chose to do it anyway.

He had every right to say ‘NO’.

“Yet, I want your will, not mine,” said He. And because He bent His knee to the will of the Father, we celebrate Resurrection Day this weekend. ( click to tweet )
