A few months ago Mr. Elmer Thompson passed away. Mr. Thompson was my middle school principal. He was a quiet and gentle man, who cared deeply about his students and teachers. He was also very involved in the local Lions Club.
This picture was discovered among his possessions when his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mildred Thompson, cleaned out his home following his death. Mildred told me she wanted me to have it. I was so pleased. It was probably taken around 1978, which I was 14 years old. Robin Patton and I had been invited to speak to the Lions Club about the effects of cigarette smoking. I feel like it might have been a Beta Club project, but am not sure. This picture was taken following our presentation. Mr. Thompson may have been the Lions Club President that year.
Whatever the year, it appears to have been in the pre-make up era. Someone once said, “Leah, doesn’t wear much makeup, but what she wears, she needs.” Sweet mercy, truer words have never been spoken. I believe makeup is a gift from God, and this picture is evidence of that fact! Have a great weekend friends.
