I had to share with you what I read this morning that impacted me in a huge way. I was in the gym at 6am working hard on the crosstrainer and reading my latest issue of Citizen (http://www.citizenmagazine.com/) magazine. In this issue (January 2008) there is a book review on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ latest book entitled My Grandfather’s Son: A Memoir. Judge Thomas recounts what incredible influence his grandparents had on his life. In his younger years, he tried to convince himself that they were just old fashioned, simple minded fuddy-duddies, but as he grew older, he realized that the ideals and values they espoused were correct.

The very last sentence of this book review is what nearly threw me off the crosstrainer. Let me quote for you the final 2 paragraphs of the review and I dare you to tell me this isn’t great stuff.

“He ends the book with his first day at the Supreme Court: ‘Looking at my new colleagues as the heavy door closed firmly behind me, I thanked God for the lives of the man and woman who led me here. Then I prayed silently: Lord, grant me the wisdom to know what is right and the courage to do it. Amen.'”

Does that not just slay you? I have such great admiration for Judge Thomas and this has only intensified that feeling. I think that will become my prayer as I do ministry and walk through this life. Lord, grant me the wisdom to know what is right and the courage to do it!!

How about you?
