Five Minute Friday…that glorious moment when our friend, Kate Motaung tosses out a word around which a whole passel of bloggers gather to write. It is more fun than a barrel of monkeys! I adore participating in Five Minute Friday because it challenges me, as a writer, to think quickly and efficiently about what I want to say. I also love it because I get to meet some pretty neat people.
Today’s word prompt is >>>>>>>>>> FREE
Here we go!
The apostle Paul was never one to mince words. In Galatians 5:1 he said:
Jesus died so that each of us, YOU and me, could know, to the very marrow of our bones, what it is to be FREE. FREE from the stranglehold of sin. FREE from the irresistible pull toward sin. FREE.
All it takes is asking Jesus to save us, and then walking in relationship with Him. That’s it.
So, why do we so easily run back toward sin? When Jesus has given us everything we need to have victory over it, and be FREE, what is the draw for us?
The pull of sin is powerful in our lives. It is like the gravitational pull of the earth on our bodies….nearly irresistible…..unless, we have experienced being truly FREE in Christ. I would submit to you that when you and I have known true, full FREEdom in Christ, and walked with Him in intimate relationship, we have no desire to return to our sin. In fact, we will do everything we can to stay clear of it.
I know this to be true personally. In my 20s I foolishly walked away from Christ and into a sinful season that lasted nearly 10 years. Today, it turns my stomach to think about the things I did. I never want to go there again. Why did I do that? Although I knew Jesus as Savior, I had never experienced an intimate relationship with Him. I was not praying daily. I was not studying Scripture. I was not doing what it took to develop that intimate relationship with Him, so I walked away from FREEdom. Thankfully, Jesus never walked away from me. He was always right there, beckoning me back to FREEdom.
What about you? Do you truly know what it is to be FREE in Christ? FREE…..no chains to hold you to sin. FREE…no secret sin.
FREE in Christ!
