This week in our Facing the Giants interview we ‘talked’ with Noah about his faithful perseverance in building the ark. Noah exhibited what Eugene Peterson calls ‘a long obedience in the same direction’. In spite of probable ridicule and a lack of comprehension regarding what was coming, Noah stayed the course and finished the race with regard to the ark which saved his family.
We need faithful perseverance in many areas of our life:
-
Marriage
-
Raising children
-
Jobs
-
Financial stewardship
-
Friendship
-
Bible study
-
Prayer
-
Exercise
-
Healthy eating
-
Caring for aging parents
-
Ministry
In From the Trash Pile to the Treasure Chest: Creating a Godly Legacy Bible study, I share the story of my Daddy’s perseverance over polio at age 16. He was told he would never walk, but determination and perseverance allowed him to walk with the aid of a full leg brace and crutches for the rest of his life.
Daddy was a very successful businessman, husband and father. ‘Handicapped’ was not a word that too many people used in the same sentence with his name because his disability did not deter him from accomplishing a great deal in life. In fact, the first time I heard someone refer to Daddy as ‘handicapped’ it was like a slap in the face. I simply never thought of Daddy as handicapped. He was determined to function just like a man with two good legs and that is exactly what he did. Through faith in God, Daddy persevered and was victorious over polio.
Do you have a story of faithful perseverance–either personally, someone you know or a story you read? I would love for you to share it as encouragement for us to persevere.
