It has been a crazy-hard, heartbreaking week around here, friends. I was tempted not to write on today’s Five Minute Friday word prompt, but when I saw it, I knew I needed to. Not because my words are so great, but because the Lord had something to say to my heart through it. So, here we go.

Today’s word prompt is ~~ TURN

GO!

“It’s my turn!”

“It’s your turn!”

“Let’s take turns.”

As children, taking turns on the merry-go-round or swing was a big deal. Schoolyard spats happened when someone didn’t wait their turn. As we grow older, taking turns is still a big deal. We stand in line at the DMV or Post Office, and we are mighty miffed if someone breaks the line and doesn’t wait their turn. Let’s not even talk about four -way stops. Did people not take Driver’s ED? It really is not difficult!

Hebrews 11 is a laundry list of people who journeyed well in their faith race. Notice I did not say they journeyed perfectly, but well. We think of the heroes of the faith down through the ages:

Abraham

Joshua

David

Paul

John the Apostle

Martin Luther

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Charles Spurgeon

Corrie ten Boom

Billy Graham

Charles Stanley

Beth Moore

Kay Arthur

Priscilla Shirer

My grandparents

My parents

Hebrews 12: 1-3 (NIV)tells us that NOW, it is our turn to walk out our faith on this dusty sod of earth. And we do it before a stellar audience:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.  Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

It’s my turn. It’s your turn. We won’t walk perfectly, but make no mistake….we will walk. It’s our turn to choose what that walk with look like. It’s our turn to create a godly legacy for the next generation.
