Looking for Week 2 Video for the online Bible study, From the Trash Pile to the Treasure Chest: Creating a Godly Legacy? Go here.

God seems to be poking His Holy Nose into my business and it is danged uncomfortable. He had the audacity to call me into a speaking and writing ministry and now it seems that He is set on showing me just how desperately I need Him for every step of that ministry. As if I did not realize it!!!
In the first week of study in From the Trash Pile to the Treasure Chest: Creating a Godly Legacy, I talk about hinge moments. Those are moments in life when one realizes they need to do something different in order to prompt a different, and hopefully better, outcome. I’ve had more than a few hinge moments of late.
- Crazy Love by Francis Chan challenged my Christianity as a whole.
- unChristian by David Kinnaman threw a glaring spotlight on the fact that many of my thoughts and actions were not pointing others to Jesus…AND in fact, may have been turning them away. (Lord, have mercy!)
- Radical by David Platt hit me full on with the reality that I am a one-dimensional Christian—very comfortable in my American comfort zone. I was forced to consider whether the way I walk out my faith look anything like that of Christians in the early church? Probably not!
- Realizing the words God gave me to place in the Legacy study really would have and is having impact for the kingdom.
Now, Billy Graham offers yet another hinge moment opportunity through words spoken in a recent interview with Greta van Susteren. Honestly, Dr. Graham’s words sent me face-to-the-floor before God.
VAN SUSTEREN: If you were to do things over again, would you do it differently?
GRAHAM: Yes. I would study more. I would pray more, travel less, take less speaking engagements. I took too many of them in too many places around the world. If I had it to do over again, I’d spend more time in meditation and prayer and just telling the Lord how much I love him and adore him and looking forward the time we’re going to spend together for eternity.
What in heaven’s name? Dr. Graham has led more people to Christ than anyone in modern history. Millions will be in heaven because of him and he thinks that he should have spoken less??!!
Do you have any idea what that does to me? If Dr. Graham feels the need to have studied Scripture more and talked to the Lord more, then my paltry efforts at Bible study and prayer most definitely need to be increased. Dr. Graham’s words remind me that in the end it is all about relationship. My relationship with Christ and the intimacy of that relationship, or lack thereof, is wholly and completely up to me.
Jesus, please give me a greater hunger for You. Help me recognize those earthly things that draw me away from you and turn from them. I simply desire more Jesus!
