In the middle of Bulldog Park in Athens, Georgia, with Bulldog madness swirling all around me, the Lord spoke to me about re-charging.
Early on Saturday morning, prior to the Georgia/South Carolina game, (Georgia won – GO DAWGS!), I settled myself in a chair to chat with Jesus. The past few weeks had been more difficult than most in the recent past of my ministry, and I needed to hear a word from my Best Friend. I watched as, one by one, our solar powered lawn lights faded in the presence of the rising sun.
On Friday afternoon when we arrived at the park, Greg and I unpacked the lights from beneath the camper, clicked the rechargeable batteries into place, and drove the spikes that held the lights into the ground. We were hoping for enough afternoon sunlight to charge the batteries so we would have lights around our fifth wheel that night.
As I pondered the lights, I was reminded that without the sun, the batteries would never charge. Without the charged batteries, the lights would not burn. While the moon is beautiful on a full-moon night, it does not have the power to charge the batteries. Only the sun, shining brightly and steadily, will charge the batteries that light the lights that reside in the ground beside our camper.
My thoughts then wandered to all of us earth-dwellers, and the many things we use to recharge our batteries. We use rest and relaxation to re-charge our physical battery. We use entertainment, such as television, movies, and electronic devices to re-charge our emotional battery. Sometimes we use inappropriate or ineffective charges for our earth-suit batteries. We may reach for alcohol, prescription medications, illegal drugs, inappropriate sex, pornography, gambling, control, social media, and any number of other poor substitutes.
What about our spiritual batteries? The only effective charger for our spiritual batteries is Jesus the SON. When we position ourselves in the bright light of the Son, soaking in His presence through the Scriptures and prayer, our spiritual batteries remain charged and we shine His light brightly to a world so desperately in need. Attempting to soak up the energy offered by the world and Satan will only result in a light that fails to illuminate Jesus to the world.
As most of you know, I am taking a bit of a social media and blogging break in order to re-charge so that I can effectively and consistently shine Jesus to the world. When the Lord showed me the sun/Son analogy, I knew I had to share it with you. So, I leave you with a Meditation Moment challenge:
MEDITATION MOMENT: Have you positioned yourself beneath the Son so you can re-charge and shine the light of Jesus to a dark world? I challenge you to examine the light that you are shining forth. Is it bright and clear as a result of soaking in the Son, or do you need to re-position yourself in order to allow the Son-light to charge you up?
