It’s time!! Today is the day to begin our Challenge 2010 Scripture Memorization. I hope you have searched out a verse that you will begin 2010 memorizing. You might want to start out slow with something as simple as “Jesus wept”. Hey, it is a verse in John that speaks volumes about our Savior and so it would qualify for the Challenge!!!

Let’s recap the rules for this Challenge which may be very familiar to some of you:

We will seek to memorize two Bible verses…TWO VERSES….each month.

On the 1st day of each month, I will post my verse here on the blog, where it is found in the Bible, and which translation of the Bible it is from. Only after I have posted my verse will you will leave a comment on that specific post telling us what verse you are going to be memorizing for the first 14 days of the month. Your comment needs to include the complete verse written out, the reference, the translation of the Bible it comes from, your name and where you are from. We will work on memorizing that verse for 14 days. Please do not leave Memory Challenge comments on any other posts.

On the 15th of each month we will choose another verse and go through the same process, posting the verse, the reference, the translation and our name and location. We will working on memorizing that verse until the end of the month.

At the end of 2010, we will have 24, count them TWENTY FOUR new Bible verses memorized. I did this in 2009 and it feels so good to have that Word hidden in my heart.

On the days that we post our verses (i.e. the 1st and the 15th) please do not leave other comments on our Challenge post. Let’s reserve those two posts each month for our Challenge verses only.

So, before I share my verse for the first 15 days of January with you, let me tell you a bit about how I chose my verse. Last year I pretty much memorized random verses in the Old and New Testaments. Whatever the Spirit led me to was what I chose and I hid some pretty awesome verses in my heart. Verses like Jude 1:24-25, Psalm 19: 12-14, Isaiah 50: 4-5, Psalm 27: 4 and many others.

In 2010, I have decided to memorize an entire chapter from Psalms. Ok, I know it sounds daunting…an entire chapter….but it really isn’t. Psalm 139, very conveniently, has 24 verses. Two per month throughout 2010. At the end of 2010, I will have the entire chapter of Psalm 139 memorized. It is a marvelous chapter that speaks so profoundly about God’s intimate care for each of us. So, if you have not chosen a verse to start with, you might want to join me in Psalm 139. I’d love to have the company and the accountability. If you choose to use the same verse that I use or that someone else uses, please be sure to write out all the information when you leave a comment (complete verse, reference, translation, name and location).

God is smiling so on you as you begin this endeavor of hiding His precious Word in your heart!!!

Ok, here is my Verse 1:

Psalm 139:1 (NIV) O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.

Now, it’s your turn. Leave a comment or email me at pointministries at brmemc dot net with your verse info. If you email me, I’ll post it on the blog for you.

Happy Memorizing and Happy New Year!!
