I am participating in the Scripture Memorization challenge that Beth Moore is doing over at the Living Proof Blog. For my August 1-14 memory verse, I have chosen one that really speaks to me in a powerful way. It is Psalm 119: 125, which also happens to be located in the portion of Psalm 119 that is my meditation Psalm for this week. Let me share it with you, if I may.
“I am your servant, give me discernment that I may understand your statues.”
This verse speaks to me of humility and a desire to be wise and that is so what I want for my life. First, humility. I walked so many years in such pride and self righteousness that it almost makes me sick to my stomach to think about it. Yuck! Despite the fact that I was saved at age 15, I allowed myself to come to a place where I thought I could handle life on my own. How wrong I was!! The Lord allowed me to see that through very vivid and painful lessons. My desire is to be humble servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. I know that I fail miserably sometimes but I am trying. I believe that it was C.S. Lewis that said, “When the will to walk is there, God is pleased with our stumbles.” I pray God is pleased with my stumbles because I do desire to walk in His will.
Secondly, I soooooo desire to be a wise woman, a woman of discernment and good character. As I shared with you last week, I have been struggling with a decision concerning my work. I have prayed about this situation fervently and have sought wise and godly counsel from my husband, my dear friends, Cindy and Robert, and my pastor. I am in the process of narrowing down my decision. It may all be a moot point because the Lord seems to be working in a completely different direction than I would have anticipated in this situation. We will wait and see. With that said, my memory verse reminds me that we gain discernment and wisdom through many avenues: the Bible, prayer, wise counsel from godly people, life experiences and many others. It is important that we be open to hearing from the Lord through whatever way He chooses to speak.
The longer and closer I walk with Christ the more I desire to do His will and not my own. How about you?
