Has God ever asked you to do something that absolutely is out of your comfort zone and scares you to death?
Umm, hmmm. Me, too. Such is current state of life in my world. God is asking me to do a major pivot in my work and ministry.
As you know, I retired from pharmacy in February 2020. In 2019, I obtained a certification as a Biblical Life Coach, and then in late 2019, got an additional certification as a Financial Coach. My plan was to build a coaching practiced where I focused on both aspects of coaching…life and financial. Then, 2020 hit, and everything ground to a halt.
Over the course of the past few months, I have sensed God nudging me to narrow my focus. I resisted. That sounds better than ‘fought’, right? I gave Him at least a dozen reasons why the narrowed focus would not work or was not reasonable. I’m pretty sure He gave me the Holy side eye!
When my daughter and I were at Christy Wright’s Business Boutique conference a week or so ago, one speaker in particular ministered to my heart. Jamie Kern Lima is the founder of IT Cosmetics that began in her living room. For years, she attempted to get her product noticed by major retail stores and QVC, but she was turned down repeatedly. She was even told by one executive that women would not buy her product because of the way she looked, i.e. her body size. Say what?????!!! Jamie knew she had a product that would benefit women of all ages, so she kept trying.
Finally, Jamie’s chance came when QVC said they would give her a 10 minute spot. Down to literally her last pennies, she had to borrow money to produce enough product to have the minimum required amount on hand. She was nervous as she began sharing about her product in her 10 minutes on television, yet she gave it her all. Every piece of her product sold in 10 minutes, and Jamie was on her way to success with IT Cosmetics.
In 2016, Jamie sold IT Cosmetics to L’Oreal for $1.2 BILLION and became L’Oreal’s first female CEO in their history. Read more of Jamie’s story HERE.
Jamie Kern Lima’s message to those of us at Business Boutique was to NEVER GIVE UP. Keep pushing and moving forward as long as you sense God’s leading. She also reminded us of something else. Something that spoke deeply to me. Check out the video below to learn what that was.
So, in these waning days of 2020, I am pivoting and narrowing my focus down to money coaching. One of the things I believe 2020 has shown us is that we need to be more prepared with our money. We need to be out of debt and able to survive on less money. We need to have an emergency fund, because emergencies happen.
I am convinced that many people have been sold the lie that debt is okay, and ‘we’ll figure it all out as we go’ is an acceptable mentality when it comes to finances.
NO! A thousand times NO!
Debt is not okay or normal. It is crippling, it enslaves you, and it steals your peace of mind and your future.
“We’ll figure it out as we go” is not an acceptable mentality for the person who wants to have peace and stability in the area of their finances. You must be intentional. It is crucial you know where your money is going, rather than wonder where it went. A written budget is the only way to money stability.
You may be someone who is diligent about having a household budget and staying out of debt. Given that over 60% of Americans could not fund a $1000 emergency with cash, my guess is that most people who read this could use some help in budgeting, getting out of debt, and having an emergency fund.
There is no shame in admitting you need a bit of help in this area. If the arteries in your heart were clogged, you would not simply let it go and hope it all worked out in the end. Isn’t the area of your finances just as important as your heart? Of course, it is.
