There is a passage of Scripture that I ran across a couple of weeks ago in my weekly meditation on the Psalms that I want to share with you today. This passage reflected what my heart has felt at times. It is a passage that must be experienced and felt, rather than simply read, because of the anguish that likely poured out of Asaph’s heart as he penned it.
Psalm 77: 7-15
~Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?
~Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?
~Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has He in anger withheld his compassion?” Selah
~Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
~I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
~I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.
~Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God?
~You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
~With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.
If I were a betting woman, I would bet that that almost everyone who reads these words will be able to identify with them in some way. If not, then you must have been in a comatose state for the past couple of years.
My faith in Christ is strong and alive, yet in the midst of the past couple of years as we have prayed for the spec house that we own to sell, some of these very thoughts in verses 7-9 have crossed my mind. No, it has not yet sold. Yes, we have dropped the price yet again. Thank you for your prayers and please continue to ask the Lord to send buyers if it comes to your mind.
One thing (among myriads) that I love, love, love about our awesome God is that He is not disconnected from our pain and trials. He engages Himself in ways that we cannot even imagine as we go through difficult days. Only when we come forth on the other side of eternity will we be able to fully realize how very active He was in the midst of our pain.
In verses 10-15 Asaph reminds us to look back and remember God’s faithfulness in our past in order to find encouragement and strength for the day at hand and for the future. We have all seen God’s faithfulness applied personally to our lives and these are the times that we need to reflect back on when we are in times of trial and difficulty. Blogs, journals, and scrapbooks are all great tools for helping us record the faithfulness of God today so that we and future generations can be encouraged.
No matter what tomorrow brings, God has been faithful, He is being faithful, and He will continue to be faithful. He has not forgotten you!! He is still compassionate toward you!! His mercies are new every morning!! Great is His faithfulness!!
