Over the course of the past couple of weeks, I have had the honor and privilege of speaking at two different ladies events–one in Villa Rica, Georgia and one in Warner Robins, Georgia. Both events were such blessings to my heart. Hence the title of my post—DOUBLE BLESSING!
May I tell you about them?
The first event in mid November in Villa Rica was a ladies Holiday Hospitality Dinner. The coordinator of the event, Missy, was a darling woman.
This was her first event as coordinator and she did a fine job. Here is a picture of the table decorations.
Inside the glass hurricanes are pinecones with white Christmas lights. Are they not beautiful? The food was superb and the evening was a blessing. There were about 60 ladies in attendance and many of them were young—under 50. Yay!!
At this event I talked about the legacy we are leaving for the generations that come behind us. The message was incredibly well received and I got a lot of comments about how important the topic is. One precious young woman came up to me with tears in her eyes and told me about her in-laws who had died tragically earlier this year. She said they left such a wonderful legacy and she and her husband want to do the same for their child. **TEARS**. She purchased two copies of the Legacy study and hopes to lead it for a group of young women in her circle of friends. The entire event was a huge blessing to me and I was honored to be chosen as their speaker.
The second event was held in Warner Robins, Georgia at the home church of Georgia Jan–the wonderful and beautiful Jan Morton. It was the Ladies Christmas Brunch for Second Baptist Church. For those of you who do not know Jan, she is one of the godliest, yet funniest women I know.
I was humbled to be asked to do this event because Jan is friends with several of the more recognized names in Christian women speakers and she could have anyone speak at her event, but she chose ME!! I was truly on the verge of tears the entire event because I was so honored. When I thanked her, she told me the Lord laid me on her heart for this event earlier this year. Thank you, Jesus!
I arrived at my hotel in Warner Robins to find this in my room:
What a blessing! It was from the leadership team for the event. They were the sweetest bunch of God’s girls you could ever hope to meet. God used that little in-room gift to remind me that this was HIS event, not mine, not the leadership team’s, but His.
The team had done a beautiful job with this event. They had a delightful trio playing Christmas music that would literally make you think you had been raptured right up to heaven. I could have listened to them all day! The food was so yummy! I almost never eat before I speak because it is terribly RUDE to burp in the middle of your message, but girls, this food looked and tasted so good, I had to have a small taste before I spoke. So good!!
The Legacy message was the topic of the day and it resonated with so many women at the event. I want to share two comments that really stand out to me. The first was from a precious older lady. She told me that she had always given her father so much credit for the legacy he left her family, but my message made her realized how much of a legacy her mother had left for her. She said, “I had just never thought about it.” Made my heart smile!!
The other comment that really rocked me was from the media tech who worked the event. HE came up to me after the event and said the following in reference to the portion of the legacy message where I talk about men, their near photographic memories, and way women dress impacts a man. In that portion of the message I reference Shaunti Feldhahn’s research into the way men have an amazing recall system in their minds of images they have seen over the years. Most men can call to mind, even without trying, a pornographic or suggestive image they saw decades ago. This is why it is so important for women not to dress in a revealing way and become an image in some man’s mental Rolodex. Our inappropriate dress can cause a man to stumble in his Christian walk, girls!
Ok, on to the comment by Mr. Media Man. He said something like this: You are so on target with what you said about men and their ability to call up images from years ago. I might not remember your face tomorrow, but I can remember inappropriate images from decades ago. Not many people talk about the things you said, Leah. Please don’t stop talking about it. People need to hear this and understand it.
TOTALLY HUMBLED!
If you are interested in learning more about this topic of men and the importance of modesty in dress for women, you can find an entire day of study on it in my Bible study.
Again, I am so grateful for the opportunity God allowed me to serve these two groups of ladies. They blessed me!
Have a great weekend.
